Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a mind / body tool that combines Chinese acupressure with modern psychology and visualisation to clear physical and emotional blockages in your energy system (negative thoughts, memories, and emotions). EFT is based on the idea that, 'The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system.' It is a non-invasive technique which involves using your fingertips to tap on specific meridian points on the body (the same used in acupressure) while focusing on a negative thought, memory or emotion.
Tapping on the meridian points (energy ‘hot-spots’) releases physical and emotional blockages. When these blockages are released, the problem feeling can be released and move through the body. A calming signal is sent to the amygdala in your brain letting your brain know that it is safe to relax.
The amygdala is responsible for triggering the stress response in our bodies, also known as the ‘fight-or-flight’ response. When faced with real-life danger, the amygdala's response is effective, but it can be detrimental when you want to feel calm and confident in every day life.
Gently tapping on these specific points while thinking about what is causing you stress, helps your mind understand that you are not in physical danger and that it is safe to relax. As a result, the amygdala becomes desensitised, cortisol (stress hormone) is lowered, issues are resolved, and negative emotions are released.
What I love most about EFT is how quickly you see results. The results are tangible in just a few minutes of tapping. EFT is so easy to learn and apply and it is a life-long tool which you will have at your disposal to help you whenever you need it.
